Animal Care Systems presented at CroLASA: Croatian Laboratory Animal Science Association
Dr. Peter Hepburn, Animal Care Systems’ manager of European business development, attended the Croatian Laboratory Animal Science Association convention on Oct. 25 and 26, 2018. Dr. Hepburn received very good feedback on his presentation “Evolving rodent housing. Improvement of standards in holding laboratory animals,” in which he reviewed the history of rodent housing and advancements that have been, and are still being, made. It all started with wooden boxes with wire covers, which evolved into plastic, and then to static microisolator cages which evolved to motorized individually ventilated cages and finally, so far, evolving to the latest generation of advanced housing: the Animal Care Systems non-motorized exhaust individually ventilated rack system.
Other presentations included guidance about monitoring every aspect of the microenvironment and macroenvironment — no detail is unimportant: from bedding to enrichment to vibration.
The convention was held jointly with the Slovenian Laboratory Animal Society.
