Going Beyond Compassion Fatigue by Ms. Julie Squires

Compassion fatigue is a normal consequence of working with and helping animals. We will inevitably witness them in pain and distress and it will sometimes affect us profoundly, that is compassion fatigue. But that’s just Chapter 1 of the book. The rest of the book is how we help ourselves and others to cope and manage with the difficult situations so that we can keep doing the work we love. The lab animal community is overflowing with deeply caring individuals that simply need the tools to support themselves and their co-workers so they can continue to make a difference in the world of research. Keywords: Mental Health, Compassion fatigue, burnout, COVID-19
