A red cage top provides protection from brightly lit rooms. Towels, drapes and tinfoil have been used as a solution to shield the the mice inside of the cage from room light, but an autoclavable red lid is a more permanent and less labor intensive solution. In addition, a red cage top used with an amber color cage bottom can be useful for providing some protection while still allowing for a clear line of sight into the cage for cage checks. This slim cage lid allows for efficient stacking in cage wash, the autoclave or dry heat oven, and storage. Ergonomically placed clips allows for the technician to keep arms in a neutral position while opening cages, minimizing repetitive strain injuries.

Recommendations: When lights in the room are too bright, or when extra dimness is required, such as for breeding mice, this lid can be used to provide protection from too bright of lights.
